Temporary storage

Store your household contents with the movers who also carry them

Sometimes there is a gap between your old home and your new one. The handover of the keys does not line up, the building work is still running, or you want to put your house on the market empty and spacious. For that in-between period we store your household contents in our own warehouse in the Waarderpolder in Haarlem, with the people who also move them. That works the same way for a private move and for a company removal.

How much there is and how long it stays decides the form. Smaller households go into wooden moving crates of about 10 m³, larger ones into a 20ft shipping container, and to bridge a few days we use a roll-off container at our warehouse. The crate or container is filled at your front door and then placed in our warehouse, by forklift or on the crane.

The warehouse is climate controlled and heated, with an alarm and cameras. Your household contents are insured up to 100,000 euros at replacement value, with no excess, and interim storage for up to 12 months falls under the same cover. Once your new home is ready, we bring everything back on a date of your choosing.

Your belongings are packed once and then stay in the same crate or container until we carry them into your new home. Nothing is transferred in between.

What is fixed before anything goes into the warehouse

With storage you hand over your household contents for a longer stretch of time. Below is what is then set down in writing and what you run through with us beforehand. Then you know it before the crate goes into the warehouse, not afterwards.

This is fixed

  • Insured up to 100,000 euros, at replacement value and with no excess; interim storage for up to 12 months falls under the same cover.
  • Our own warehouse on the Izaäk Enschedéweg in the Waarderpolder: climate controlled, heated and secured with an alarm and cameras.
  • Locked and sealed while you watch, with an inventory list and photos where needed. That records exactly what is stored with us.
  • No minimum term and no minimum volume: from a few pieces of furniture to a complete household, and delivery back on a date of your choosing.

You can read the full cover on our insurance page and in the terms and conditions we apply.

This you run through with us

  • Volume and duration: how much goes into storage and roughly how long it stays decides whether we use crates, a container or a roll-off container.
  • The collection day, and as soon as you know it, the day it comes back. That second date may follow later: you are not tied to an end date.
  • Storage for longer than 12 months? Then it runs beyond the term of the certificate and we make a separate arrangement about it beforehand.
  • Access to your belongings in the meantime? That is possible by arrangement. Mention it at the survey and we agree how to plan it during the storage period.

Not sure about something in your household contents? Give us a call and we put it in writing beforehand. 023 532 26 23

Our own fleet

Your household contents travel only twice, both times in our own van

Once from your old home to our warehouse, and once from the warehouse to your new home. In between, everything stands untouched in the crate or container, indoors and insured. You do not have to arrange a second carrier or fill a self-storage unit yourself: we take the move and the period in between off your hands from start to finish.

Customer reviews

Handing over your belongings takes trust

With storage you hand over your household contents not for a day, but for weeks or months. That is when you want to know who you are dealing with. Customers give us a 4.9 on Google from 281 reviews, a 9.8 on Trustoo from 596 and a 9.6 on Klantenvertellen from 188. And we have been at this a while: since 1927 we have handled more than 50,000 moves as a Haarlem family business.

We are an Erkende Verhuizer (the Dutch recognised-mover accreditation) and work to Kiwa ISO 9001; the cover for your household contents during storage is therefore set before your belongings arrive with us. And the reviews themselves sit with third parties: we cannot change them or take them down.

Stored and back home in 4 steps.

Free home survey

Our adviser calls round, a short visit of about 20 minutes. He estimates the volume, talks through roughly how long the storage has to last, and you know straight away whether it will be crates, a container or a roll-off container. You have the fixed quote, with the storage in it, within one working day.

Packing and loading at your door

Moving boxes, packing paper and labels are at your home beforehand, free on loan. On collection day we wrap furniture in moving blankets and fragile items in tissue paper or bubble wrap. The crate or container is filled at your front door, so your belongings pass through hands only once.

Boxes free on loan

Into the warehouse

Your crate or container is locked and sealed while you watch. In our warehouse on the Izaäk Enschedéweg the container goes up on the crane and the forklift puts the crates in their place. There everything stands heated and secured, insured up to 100,000 euros.

Heated and secured

Back on a date of your choosing

Once your new home is ready, we drive the container or the crates round again and carry everything inside. Whatever we took apart before the storage we put back together: that is in the price of the move. The empty moving boxes we collect again afterwards, as soon as you let us know.

Send us a few photos, we sort out the rest

Message photos of the rooms or of the things that have to go for a while to 06 28 67 67 83, and add roughly how long you think you will need the storage. We think along with you straight away about the handiest form of storage and the price, right there in the same chat.

Would you rather do it in person? Our adviser calls round free of charge, a short visit of about 20 minutes, and looks at what is going into storage; you have the quote within one working day. Calling works just as well: 023 532 26 23, or for Amsterdam 020 309 98 11.

Crate, container or roll-off: how you choose

With us your household contents do not stand loose in a hall, but in a crate, container or box of their own. Which of the three it becomes depends on the volume and the duration. Below you see all three, plus a rule of thumb for estimating your own cubic metres.

Moving crate, 10 m³

For smaller households we use large wooden moving crates of about 10 m³. The empty crate travels along in the removal van and is filled at your front door. The forklift then puts the crate in our warehouse. When you need the contents again, we bring the crate out and deliver everything to you.

Shipping container, over 30 m³

Households above 20 m³ we store in a 20ft shipping container: 33 m³ of capacity, good for over 30 m³ of household contents. We drive the empty container round to you, load it on the spot and then hoist it into the warehouse on the crane. A larger household we spread over several containers.

Roll-off container, 50 m³

Do the handovers of your old and your new home just miss each other, or does the building work run a few days over? Then the roll-off container is the handiest form: a 50 m³ container that stands at our storage site. We collect your household contents with the removal van, put them in the container for a few days and then take everything to your new address in one go.

How many m³ is your household?

People living alone have on average 15 to 20 m³ of household contents, couples without children 25 to 30 m³, families with two children 40 to 45 m³. That tells you roughly whether to think of crates or of a container. Our adviser measures it precisely during the free home survey, or work it out yourself with our m³ calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What customers ask first about storage

What does it cost to store my household contents with a moving company?

The price depends on the volume of your household contents and on the duration: together they decide whether we use crates, a container or a roll-off container. After the free home survey you have a fixed quote within one working day, with the storage taken into account straight away. For the move itself you can work out a figure with our moving costs calculator, and storage is a question on the form when you request your quote.

What the market charges: for 15 m³ of storage, a small flat, comparison platform Sirelo puts the average at 75 to 140 euros a month. Would you rather have your own figure quickly? Send photos of your household contents on WhatsApp to 06 28 67 67 83.

Are my household contents insured while they are with you?

Yes. Your household contents are insured up to 100,000 euros at replacement value, with no excess, through the Garantiecertificaat van de Erkende Verhuizers. Interim storage for up to 12 months falls under the same cover as the move itself.

If you expect the storage to last longer, we make a separate arrangement about that beforehand. If art, antiques or a collection go into storage, they count within that amount up to 20,000 euros; if your piece or collection is worth more, tell us beforehand and we agree something separate for it. You can read more about the cover on our insurance page.

How long can my household contents stay in storage?

As short or as long as you need: there is no minimum term. From a few days in a roll-off container to months in a crate or container; the duration decides, together with the volume, which form we use.

You are not tied to an end date. Once your new home is ready, we bring everything back on a date of your choosing. Do bear in mind the insurance limit of 12 months; beyond that we make a separate arrangement beforehand.

Can I get to my belongings in the meantime?

Yes, by arrangement. Your household contents stand in our own warehouse in the Waarderpolder, not with a third party. If you want to look at something, collect it or add to it during the storage period, give us a call or a message and we will plan a moment for it.

When loading we also make an inventory list, with photos where needed. That records what went into storage, so you can find what you are looking for.

Can it be done for a few pieces of furniture or part of my household?

Yes. There is no minimum volume: a piano, a few pieces of furniture or a stack of boxes can come to us for a while as well. If you are having building work done and only part of your things has to leave the house, that is exactly what storage is for.

Our smallest form of storage is the wooden moving crate of about 10 m³. At the free home survey the adviser looks at how many crates your situation calls for.

Do you also do moves with storage from Amsterdam?

Yes. We collect household contents in Amsterdam and the surrounding area and store them in our own warehouse in the Waarderpolder in Haarlem. For Amsterdam you can reach us on 020 309 98 11.

As soon as your new home is ready, we deliver everything back: in Amsterdam, in Haarlem or wherever your new address is.
